ELECTRIC SHEEP AT EXPOSURES FESTIVAL
SUNDAY 23 NOVEMBER, Cornerhouse, Manchester, 7:00pm: Electric Sheep are very proud to present a preview screening of Far North, the stunning new film from award-winning British director Asif Kapadia, adapted from a short story by Sara Maitland. A folk tale set in the Arctic Ocean, it stars Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Michelle Krusiec (Saving Face). Far North is a story of myth, love and revenge played out against an epic landscape. For tickets and information, go to the Cornerhouse website.
HECTIC PEELERS FILM CLUB
TUESDAY 2 DECEMBER, Roxy Bar and Screen, 7:30pm, FREE: For the next Electric Sheep/Resonance FM film club we will be screening Memories of Matsuko, an exuberant bubblegum Japanese melodrama with a dark edge, which pieces together the tragi-comic tale of an eccentric woman who went looking for love in all the wrong places. Saturated colour, moody lighting and musical interludes make the film a pure joy to watch, and it is no surprise that it received the audience award at the Tiger Festival in June 08. Adam Torel, head of Third Window Films, the distributors of the film in the UK, will be in attendance to introduce the film and do a Q&A afterwards.
SUNDAY SHOCK THERAPY
SUNDAY 7 DECEMBER, Vibe Live, 2-6pm, FREE: To celebrate the publication of the winter issue of Electric Sheep we’ll be screening a double bill of outrageous Icelandic horror movies, the comic book-style vampire comedy Frostbite (2006) and the classic 50s monster movie Terror in the Midnight Sun (1959). For all those desperate to find eccentric, bizarre, funny, enchanting, beautiful and non-mass-produced Christmas presents, we’ll also have an alternative mini-Christmas market with a film books and DVDs stall from Cinéphilia, London Underground Comics, Where It’s At Is Where You Are records, Sophistikitten retro lingerie, and cakes!
